Efforts to organize a 40 year Reunion of the 1968 Olympic Team

Dear 1968 teammate,
It has been nearly 40 years since our time together in Mexico
City. Would you like to have a full team reunion and get together
again for a few days? We could share memories, renew acquaintances,
and have some fun together! But we need your help and your response.
Based on an earlier email query, there appears to be some interest
in the team reunion. The purposes of this email are to determine
if enough team members are interested in a reunion to make it
worthwhile, and to invite additional assistance in the reunion
organization effort. Everything depends on your individual responses.
Please give this your immediate attention.
Note: Neither Cindy Stinger nor the USOC are
in a position to sponsor such an event at this time. Therefore,
this would be a “grass roots” reunion hosted by and
for the 1968 summer team.
The tentative reunion plans are as follows:
Who: Athletes, coaches, and staff of the 1968 Summer
US Olympic Team and their guests.
When: Friday evening, August 1, 2008, through
Sunday morning, August 3, 2008.
Where: Hilton Ballpark Hotel, located in downtown St.
Louis, MO.
How Much: The reunion will have to be organized on
a pay-as-you-go basis.
Here are items to consider for your financial planning.
- Transportation to and from St Louis.
- Hotel rooms @ $129 per night plus tax, hotel parking $14
per day.
- Meals on your own: dinner August 1, breakfast and lunch
August 2, brunch August 3.
- Registration fee (to be determined, probably between $100
and $200 per person) payable in advance to cover administrative
costs, identification tags, August 1 reception, and August
2 gala dinner.
- Optional purchases of selected memorabilia on individual
basis.
Please think about this idea and the tentative plans outlined
above. Then fill out and return the survey below as soon as
possible. This will give us the information we need to continue
with our reunion exploration. If we get a large enough expression
of interest, we will proceed with reunion plans, including the
mailout of a registration packet early in 2008, requesting your
commitment and your deposit.
